TORONTO - Construction of the new Ministry of Government Services Data Centre in Guelph, which will house data centre operations for the ministry's Infrastructure Technology Services (ITS), was completed today, on time and on budget.

The new facility will provide a major upgrade to the Ontario government's information technology support capacity, ensuring that Ontario's technology systems are robust, reliable and responsive to current and future needs.

Plenary Properties was selected in early 2008 as the team to design, build, finance and maintain the new data centre. The Plenary Properties consortium includes Plenary Group, Deutsche Bank, PCL Constructors, Modern Niagara, Plan Group, Adamson Associates, Smith and Anderson, and Johnson Controls.

Construction of the new facility began in July 2008. Approximately 400 construction workers were on-site daily at this project at the peak of construction.

As part of the government's commitment to creating and promoting energy conservation in Ontario, the new facility has been built to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, which includes rigorous requirements for energy management and conservation.

Infrastructure Ontario worked with the Ministry of Government Services to develop the new data centre. Infrastructure Ontario is a Crown corporation dedicated to managing some of the province's larger and more complex infrastructure renewal projects - ensuring they are built on time and on budget.
