Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Hamilton Health Sciences announced today the Ron Joyce Children's Health Centre, formerly known as McMaster Children's Health Centre has reached substantial completion.

The new Centre will open with full operations and services to patients in late November.

Located on Wellington Street in Hamilton, the Centre will be fully accessible and will include an outdoor wheeling track, a therapeutic playground and physiotherapy space. It will bring together a number of programs currently located at Hamilton Health Sciences' Chedoke site, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder Services
  • Child and Youth Mental Health Program
  • Developmental Pediatrics and Rehabilitation Program
  • Prosthetics and Orthotics

The new Centre will provide the space to accommodate the delivery of patient- and family-focused service and individualized programming. Together, these programs will accommodate approximately 70,000 visits annually.

The building is uniquely designed to suit the needs of its patients and families. With a spacious four-storey atrium, full height windows, and outdoor terraces, the facility makes the best use of natural light. Colourful furniture, accent walls and textural materials encourage a joyful and inviting environment, while rooms have been designed for comfort of patients and visitors. The overall design of the facility is intended to create a space where children, youth and adults will feel welcomed, engaged, and encouraged while receiving the best in care.

PCL Partnerships was selected to deliver the project and construction began in May 2014. The new facility was completed on time and on budget and at the peak of construction, approximately 120 construction workers were on site daily.

IO, the Ministry of Children and Youth Services and Hamilton Health Sciences/McMaster Children's Hospital worked together to deliver the project.
