KINGSTON - John Gerretsen, MPP for Kingston and the Islands, joined Glen Wood, Chair for Providence Care Board of Directors, to officially unveil a sign marking the future site of the new Providence Care Hospital.
The 270-bed hospital will provide a caring environment for patients and clients and a modern, improved work environment for physicians, staff and volunteers. The hospital will include single inpatient rooms that meet current infection control standards and adjacent therapy and treatment spaces that will allow patients to receive care closer to their rooms. It will also feature on-site clinics for inpatients and outpatients and improved teaching, learning and research facilities that will support Providence Care's role as a major centre for health education and research.
Three companies - Integrated Team Solutions, Plenary Health and Providence Alliance for Caring Environments - were recently short-listed to submit proposals to design, build, finance and maintain the new facility.
The project will focus on sustainable design and construction, with the goal of achieving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver certification.
Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care are working with Providence Care to build the new hospital, which will be publicly owned and publicly controlled.
