TORONTO - Infrastructure Ontario and Women's College Hospital announced today the companies that were short-listed to design, build, finance and maintain the new Women's College Hospital. This project will involve the construction of a brand new facility built on the hospital's current site on Grenville Street in downtown Toronto. The new Women's College Hospital will improve medical services for women by consolidating most hospital activities into one location.

Of the seven pre-qualified companies, three companies will be invited to respond to a request for proposals (RFP), expected to be issued in late spring 2009. The three short-listed companies include:

Women's College Health Partnership

  • Innisfree/Acciona Infrastructure Canada/Aecon Concessions
  • Adamson Associates/Kasian Architecture
  • Acciona/Aecon
  • Angus Consulting Management Services Inc.

Integrated Team Solutions

  • EllisDon/LPF Infrastructure Fund/Fengate
  • Parkin Architects/HOK Architects
  • EllisDon Construction
  • Honeywell Ltd.

Women's College Partnership

  • Bilfinger Berger
  • Perkins Eastman Black/IBI
  • The Walsh Group/Bondfield Construction
  • Black & McDonald/HSG Zander

The remaining pre-qualified companies will act as reserves in the event that one of the three short-listed companies is unable to bid. Pre-qualified companies were selected based on their development, design, construction, financial, and facilities management capacity to undertake a project of this size and complexity.

“I'm pleased the construction industry has expressed such interest in this project,” said George Smitherman, Deputy Premier, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure and MPP for Toronto Centre. “Reaching a new stage in this project brings us one step forward to a stronger healthcare system for the community and Ontario.”

“This announcement brings us another step closer to realizing our vision of creating Ontario's first standalone academic ambulatory hospital,” said Marilyn Emery, President and CEO, Women's College Hospital. “Our new facility will allow us to continue to champion state-of-the-art health care for women and their families.”

The teams were pre-qualified through a request for qualifications (RFQ) process, which began in October 2008.

Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care are working with Women's College Hospital to develop the new hospital, which will remain publicly owned, publicly controlled and publicly accountable. Infrastructure Ontario is a Crown corporation dedicated to managing some of the province's larger and more complex infrastructure renewal projects - ensuring they are built on time and on budget.
