TORONTO - Infrastructure Ontario released a request for qualifications (RFQ) to pre-qualify companies to deliver driver examination services across the Province of Ontario and to upgrade and maintain the information technology systems at all DriveTest centres to provide more efficient and secure services.

The operator of driver examination services is responsible for providing knowledge and driving tests to individuals applying for or renewing driver's licenses in any class, including commercial classes of licences; maintaining and operating a network of Drive Test facilities and Travel Point facilities (part time locations); as well as responding to customer inquiries and complaints.

Annually, the existing driver examination services network processes approximately 575,000 knowledge tests, 675,000 road tests and exchanges over 90,000 licences from other jurisdictions.

The current contract for driver examination services expires on August 31, 2013.

The RFQ, available at www.merx.com, is the first step in a competitive procurement process to select an operator of driver examination services for a new contract.

RFQ submissions will be evaluated by Infrastructure Ontario and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO). Together, they will pre-qualify and short-list project teams with the required experience and financial strength and capacity to deliver the project. Short-listed teams will be invited to respond to a request for proposal (RFP) in spring 2012.

Infrastructure Ontario is a Crown corporation dedicated to managing some of the province's larger and more complex infrastructure renewal projects - ensuring they are built on time and on budget.
