Request For Qualifications Issued For St. Joseph's Hospital Site Redevelopment

LONDON - Residents of the London region took another step toward improved healthcare facilities today with the release of a request for qualifications (RFQ) to shortlist teams to build and finance the redevelopment project at St. Joseph's acute/ambulatory care facility at the St. Joseph's Hospital Site.

“This marks another milestone for the London region.  I'm pleased to announce that St. Joseph's Health Care, London continues to move forward in its development plans,” said Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal David Caplan. “This project is one of many in the McGuinty government's five-year $30-billion infrastructure renewal plan to modernize infrastructure and ensure value for taxpayer dollars as we build strong, prosperous communities.”

"This project is an essential part of the McGuinty government's plan to improve healthcare, reduce wait times and upgrade medical equipment.  Moving forward on the redevelopment plan is really good news for our community," said London North Centre MPP Deb Matthews.

“This is a much-anticipated and most welcomed announcement for St. Joseph's and for our community. While people are at the heart of care, teaching and research, renewed facilities are vital as we shift our focus at St. Joseph's Hospital to day clinics, surgery and treatment programs and at the same time, continue to attract some of the finest health professionals and students. Many people have contributed to the effort to complete hospital restructuring in London.  Today, we all have reason to celebrate this next important step,” said Cliff Nordal, President and CEO of St. Joseph's Health Care, London.

Once qualified project teams have been short-listed, it is anticipated they will be invited to respond to a request for proposal (RFP) in summer 2006 with construction scheduled to begin in early 2007.

The St. Joseph's Health Care, London RFQ was issued as part of a combined qualification process including five other infrastructure projects across the province.

The hospital will manage this project with Infrastructure Ontario, a provincial crown corporation, under the government's Alternative Financing and Procurement (AFP) program - part of ReNew Ontario, a five-year infrastructure investment plan.

This project also supports the McGuinty government's plan to build a healthcare system that focuses on three priorities - keeping Ontarians healthy, reducing wait times and improving access to doctors and nurses.

The redeveloped facilities, like all hospitals in Ontario, will be publicly owned and publicly controlled.
