ST. THOMAS - The request for proposals stage has closed for pre-qualified companies to submit bids to build and finance St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital's Emergency, Ambulatory and Mental Health redevelopment project.

The project involves a three-storey addition to the northwest side of the current hospital building. The new addition will be approximately 106,000 square feet and will include:

  • a new emergency department;
  • surgical suite;
  • medical devices reprocessing department;
  • acute mental health unit with 15 inpatient beds and ambulatory services; and
  • ambulance garage.

Over the next several months, Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital will evaluate the proposals. The successful bidder and cost of the project will be announced publicly following financial close, which is anticipated for fall 2015.

IO and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care are working with the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital to redevelop the facility, which will be publicly owned, controlled and accountable.
