Infrastructure Ontario and Halton Healthcare Services announced today the request for proposals (RFP) stage has closed for short-listed building teams to submit bids to design, build, finance and maintain the new replacement Oakville Hospital.

The New Oakville Hospital will be a state-of-the-art facility with a full range of health services including:

  • complex continuing care;
  • rehabilitation;
  • renal dialysis;
  • acute inpatient care;
  • maternal child care;
  • inpatient and outpatient adult and child and adolescent mental health;
  • secondary and tertiary level programs; and
  • a new cancer clinic to provide chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, procedures and clinical trials for oncology patients.

The hospital will be designed and built to meet the Canada Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) rating system, with a goal of achieving LEED® Silver certification. LEED® buildings focus on healthy indoor environments, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and efficient use of energy, water and other resources.

Over the next several months, Infrastructure Ontario and Halton Healthcare Services will evaluate the bidders' proposals based on criteria set out in the RFP. The successful bidder is expected to be announced in spring 2011 when the evaluation process is complete. The cost of the winning bid will be announced publicly following financial close, anticipated for summer 2011 and construction is expected to begin shortly after.

Once under construction, this project will create spin off jobs in the community and will stimulate economic development in the region.

Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care are working with Halton Healthcare Services to develop the new replacement hospital, which will remain publicly owned, publicly controlled and publicly accountable.

Infrastructure Ontario is a Crown corporation dedicated to delivering some of the province's larger and more complex infrastructure renewal projects - ensuring they are built on time and on budget - and to providing the public sector and not-for-profit organizations with long-term financing to renew their infrastructure.
