KINGSTON - The request for proposals stage has closed for shortlisted teams to submit bids to design, build, finance and maintain Providence Care Hospital.
The new hospital will include single inpatient rooms that meet current infection control standards and adjacent therapy and treatment spaces that will allow patients to receive care closer to their rooms. It will also feature on-site clinics for inpatients and outpatients and improved teaching, learning and research facilities that will support Providence Care's role as a major centre for health education and research.
The project will focus on sustainable design and construction, with the goal of achieving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver certification. LEED® buildings focus on healthy indoor environments, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and efficient use of energy, water and other resources.
Over the next several months, Infrastructure Ontario and Providence Care will evaluate the proposals from Integrated Health Solutions, Plenary Health and Providence Alliance for Caring Environments. The successful bidder is expected to be announced in fall of 2013 when the evaluation process is complete. The cost of the winning bid will be announced publicly following financial close, anticipated for late 2013, and construction is expected to begin shortly after.
Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care are working with Providence Care to build the new facility, which will remain publicly owned and publicly controlled.
