BURLINGTON - The request for proposals stage has closed for prequalified companies to submit bids to design, build and finance the hospital's redevelopment and expansion project.

The project includes the construction of a new seven-storey patient-care tower, modern emergency department, intensive care unit, and significant renovations to the existing space. This will provide the growing community with improved access to a larger, more modern hospital with additional new private patient rooms, consistent with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care's design guidelines. The new hospital design will help meet the highest standards for infection prevention and control, and quality of care.

Highlights of the project include:

  • a new emergency department
  • 28 new, intensive care unit (ICU) beds
  • 80 percent single-patient rooms in medical and surgical program
  • 70 percent single-patient rooms across the hospital
  • nine new state-of-the-art operating rooms
  • an expanded cancer clinic
  • a renovated special care nursery
  • expanded medical, surgical and outpatient services
  • expanded diagnostic services
  • expanded ambulatory care programs

Over the next several months, Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Joseph Brant Hospital will evaluate the proposals from innovaCARE Partners, Integrated Team Solutions and PCL Partnerships. The successful bidder and cost of the project will be announced publicly following financial close, which is anticipated for December 2014.

IO and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care are working with Joseph Brant Hospital to expand and renovate the facility, which will remain publicly-owned, controlled and accountable.
