KINGSTON - Infrastructure Ontario and Providence Care today announced Integrated Team Solutions has signed a fixed price contract to design, build, finance and maintain the new Providence Care Hospital.

Today's announcement signifies that all contractual steps have been completed and construction will start immediately. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2016.

The hospital project is a significant economic opportunity for suppliers and contractors in Kingston and surrounding communities. At the peak of construction, Integrated Team Solutions estimates more than 350 workers will be on site daily.

The new hospital will be a state-of-the-art health care facility for residents of Kingston and surrounding communities. Services and programs from the St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital site and the Mental Health Services site of Providence Care will be relocated into the new hospital to offer a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient programs.

The project will incorporate sustainable design and construction features, with the goal of achieving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver certification. LEED® buildings focus on healthy indoor environments, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and efficient use of energy, water and other resources.

The value of the contract with Integrated Team Solutions is approximately $810 million in today's dollars. Over the 30-year life of the contract, when adjustments for anticipated inflation are made, the contract value is $901 million. The contract cost covers the design and construction of the facility, building maintenance, life-cycle repair and renewal, as well as project financing.

The Providence Care Hospital project underwent an open, fair and competitive procurement process and Integrated Team Solutions submitted the proposal that delivered the best value for Ontario taxpayers.

Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care are working with Providence Care to build the new facility, which will remain publicly owned and publicly controlled.
