New hospital construction boosting local economy

The new, state-of-the-art hospital in Oakville will provide up to 457 inpatient beds and offer a full range of acute health care services, including complex continuing care rehabilitation, renal dialysis, acute inpatient care, maternal child care and inpatient and outpatient adult, child and adolescent mental health services.

The Honourable Bob Chiarelli, Minister of Infrastructure and Minister of Transportation, joined Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn, Mayor Rob Burton and hospital officials today at the construction site of the new Oakville hospital to mark the pouring of its concrete foundation.

The foundation slab for the new hospital will use more than 5,430 cubic metres of concrete - enough for 2.2 kilometres of sidewalk. Currently, there are more than 200 workers on site daily and at the peak of construction there will be more than 1,100.

Construction activities taking place in the next few months include:

  • formwork installation for additional concrete pouring for walls and floors
  • the installation of natural gas and water services to Third Line
  • foundation waterproofing
  • weeping tile installation at the basement level
  • concrete pouring at ground level

Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care are working with Halton Healthcare Services to develop the new replacement hospital, which will remain publicly owned and publicly controlled.
