About the Project
- The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health project was part of the first phase of a 10-year, three-phase redevelopment plan for the CAMH Queen Street site in Toronto.

- The Intergenerational Wellness Centre is a client-care building for the centre's Child, Youth & Family and Geriatric Mental Health program
- The Gateway Building houses outpatient programming, administration and facility support services
- The Utilities and Parking Building contains meeting rooms and offices, a new central plant and parking facilities
Community And Green Benefits
- CAMH's Addictions Program is fully integrated at the Queen Street site and no longer split between different locations, leading to increased collaboration between CAMH staff and better results for clients, particularly those that have both disorders concurrently
- CAMH's geriatric program and its child and youth programs have been brought together to advance CAMH's vision of an integrated, client-centred model of care
- CAMH provided clinical training for physicians, nurses and allied health care workers in its new facilities
CAMH was the first hospital facility in Ontario to seek and achieve the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification The new CAMH facilities:
- utilize regional materials and recycled content during the construction phase
- optimize energy performance by implementing a central energy plant
- incorporate a high-reflective roof system in accordance with the ENERGY STAR rating system
- ensure an improved indoor environmental quality through the use of low-emitting materials and implementation of a detailed indoor air-quality management plan
The redeveloped grounds:
- provide alternative fuel vehicular parking, adequate space for bicycle storage and shower facilities for staff to reduce the project's carbon footprint
- feature an improved tree canopy on site to reduce the heat island effect at the pedestrian level
A landscape plan that eliminates potable water consumption for planting was implemented
Economic Benefits
At the peak of construction, an estimated 350 workers were on site daily. Labour was largely drawn from the Greater Toronto Area.
