Registration required as of April 1, 2017

TORONTO - Infrastructure Ontario (IO) is taking another step toward ensuring safer construction sites by expanding its requirements under the Certificate of Recognition (COR) occupational health and safety accreditation program.  COR is administered in Ontario by the International Health and Safety Association (IHSA).

In September 2016, COR certification became a fundamental pre-qualification requirement for contractors / constructors participating in the request for qualifications (RFQ) process for major projects using IO's Alternative Financing and Procurement (AFP) model. These projects are generally valued at over $100 million.

For Direct Delivery real estate projects with a construction value over $10 million, COR requirements are being phased in by IO to ensure adequate time for firms bidding on these projects to complete the application process.  

As of April 1, 2017, contractors must have initiated the registration process for COR to be eligible to bid on these Direct Delivery projects. The deadline for becoming COR-certified will be April 1, 2018. It can take a number of months to become certified, so the sooner companies get registered the better.
